Following a military incident which results in death or serious injury, a Service Inquiry is held in order to understand the circumstances. If you are a ‘potentially affected person’ which means your character or professional reputation could be affected, you may attend all or part of any Inquiry and be legally represented at the proceedings.

The President of the Inquiry can also allow other interested parties to be present. If they require legal representation, this can be permitted with consent of the convening authority.

We have extensive experience in assisting individuals in relation to Service Inquiries and can provide expert guidance on the following:

  • Advice in relation to procedure
  • Advising and assisting ‘potentially affected persons’
  • Advising and assisting other interested parties such as the family of a deceased Service person
  • Advocacy at the Inquiry itself both on behalf of ‘potentially affected persons’ or other interested parties including questioning witnesses and addressing the panel on their behalf

Please contact our Andover or Salisbury office for a free initial consultation to discuss your case and see how we can help you.
