We have extensive experience in assisting individuals in relation to Service Inquiries. The Armed Forces (Service Inquiries) Regulations 2008 stipulate that a “potentially affected person” may attend all or part of any Inquiry and be legally represented at the proceedings. A “potentially affected person” is a person, who in the opinion of the President of the Inquiry, may be affected in relation to his/her character or professional reputation by the findings of the Inquiry. The President also has the discretion to allow other interested parties to be present at the Inquiry who may also require legal representation, which can be permitted with the consent of the convening authority.
We are able to assist in the following way:
- Advice in relation to procedure.
- Advising and assisting “potentially affected persons”.
- Advising and assisting other interested parties such as the family of a deceased Service person.
- Advocacy at the Inquiry itself both on behalf of “potentially affected persons” or other interested parties including questioning witnesses and addressing the panel on their behalf.
